How To Add Colour To Your Space
Adding colour to your space can be somewhat daunting we you have a blank canvas or feel overwhelmed on where to start. We chatted to our Founder, Martina Blanchard, to get her expert advice on how to add colour to your space.
Start with a neutral base across all major areas. Establishing a neutral palette creates a calming foundation for the overall design, allowing you to incorporate stand out colours through accessories and decor without overwhelming the space.
I particularly love using mineral-based paints like the Porters Mineral Range, which provide a matte or eggshell finish and depth, thanks to their natural silicate composition. These paints are not only durable and colourfast but also environmentally friendly, minimising resource use and protecting health —a win-win!
Next, choose a cohesive colour palette that complements your design style. Limit your choices to two to four main colours to maintain harmony while adding visual interest. Where practical, consider low-sheen or matte finishes for a more sophisticated and in depth look.
Don’t forget to consider lighting! Be mindful of how natural and artificial light affects colour perception in your space. Test paint samples in different lighting conditions to see how the hues change throughout the day, as colour can look considerably different under artificial lighting compared to natural sunlight.
